Every Monday your child will bring home a special homework assignment that is not for your child alone. Family Homework assignments are designed to involve the whole family in our Kindergarten program.
Family Homework is an invitation to join in a partnership with school.
This partnership has many benefits for your child and for you.
Completing Family Homework provides reinforcement of the concepts and practice of the skills introduced in school. Your involvement in your child's schoolwork will give school more importance in his/her eyes. Most important, your child will grow to understand that learning takes place at home, at school, and every place in-between.
As a parent, your weekly participation will be a learning experience. It will provide an ongoing line of communication between you and the classroom. You will have the opportunity to observe how your child learns and what he/she is learning. You will have a clear understanding of how your child is progressing through the curriculum as you watch him or her work through each assignment.
Family Homework is sent home on Monday. It is due on Friday. Many of the assignments are set up to be worked on for a short time each day. Others should be completed in one or two sessions. A parent, grandparent, or older brother or sister should always assist the young student.
Please remember that the process, not the product, is the most important aspect of these assignments. The discussion, the activity and the involvement of a caring family member are more important than the
final appearance of the paper.
All of the Family Homework pages your child completes and returns this year will be collected and made into a memory book. It is fun to look through the books on the last day of school!
