Dd is For
Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It
adapted by Mrs. Jones

Put a donut on the dish, on the dish.
Put a donut on the dish, on the dish.
Put a donut on the dish, put as many as you wish.
Then say, "Dd is for the donut on the dish!"

Put a dog on the dish, on the dish.
Put a dog on the dish, on the dish.
Put a dog on the dish, put as many as you wish.
Then say, "Dd is for the dog on the dish!"

Put a doll on the dish, on the dish.
Put a doll on the dish, on the dish.
Put a doll on the dish, put as many as you wish.
Then say, "Dd is for the doll on the dish!"

Other verses:
Put (child's Dd name) on the dish, on the dish...
Put your dad on the dish, on the dish..
Put a dollar on the dish, on the dish...
Put some dimes on the dish, on the dish...
Put a door on the dish, on the dish...
Put a dish on the dish, on the dish...

Our classes wrote and illustrated a book based on this song. Each child drew a dish and a "Dd" thing on the dish. Then he/she used invented spelling to finish the sentence: "Put _____ _____ on the dish." We put all the pages together into a class book, decided on a title, made a cover, then took turns taking it home to share (and sing!) with our families.
